How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

2023 Nissan Leaf Charging

With so many Granbury and Weatherford drivers switching to electric vehicles, we get a lot of customers at Granbury Nissan asking us, “How long does it take to charge an electric car?” There isn’t a simple answer because electric car charging times depend on different factors, such as the type of charger you use and the make and model of your EV.

So, let’s explore the different types of charging systems, and then we’ll cover the Nissan ARIYA charging speed since it’s one of the EVs in our new vehicle inventory. After reading this brief guide, if you still have questions about electric car charging times or you want to take the Nissan ARIYA for a test drive on the Granbury streets, feel free to contact us.

What are My Electric Car Charging Options?

As mentioned, there are different types of charging systems that affect car charging times. See the different types of charging systems below:

  1. Level 1 Charging System: The Level 1 (120V) charging system is the simplest EV charging system. It plugs right into your home’s power outlets and takes 22-40 hours to deliver a complete charge if the battery is at 10% or lower depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
  2. Level 2 Charging System: Level 2 Charging systems provide double the voltage of Level 1 chargers and can give your battery all the juice it needs in about half the time, with the ability to power an electric car overnight. Furthermore, these charging systems can boost your car’s battery from 10% to 80% in about 30-45 minutes. Level 2 charging stations are in some public charging locations, but many public stations are upgrading to Level 3 systems, and most new EVs come with their own Level 2 charging station which is installed by the manufacturer.
  3. Level 3 Charging Systems: Level 3 charging stations are the highest-voltage, fastest charging stations available, and as mentioned above, many public charging stations now offer Level 3 (400V-900V) charging. These cut electric car charging times drastically, with charging speeds as fast as 45 minutes. As EVs become more popular on the Granbury streets, you can expect to see more Level 3 charging stations in your favorite shopping and dining areas.

Nissan ARIYA Charging Speed

As promised, now we’ll cover the Nissan ARIYA charging speed, which like all EVs, depends on the type of charging system. With a Level 2 charging station, you can expect it to take around 11 hours to give your Ariya a full charge, and the Nissan ARIYA charging time is cut to an hour to an hour and a half with a Level 3 charging system. However, you should never let your battery get too low or make a habit of driving on a low battery.
